My Supervision Style

My supervisory approach is not specific, working with aspects of different models of supervision, though led by an Integrative Relational standpoint.
Mirroring my counselling philosophy, I value the therapeutic alliance as being more effective than any skilled appliance of a specific model, approach or technique.
A definition of Supervision that works for me within and outside of the counselling arena is that of Inskipp and Proctor (2001),
..’Working alliance between two professionals where supervisees offer an account of their work, reflect on it, receive feedback and receive guidance if appropriate. The object is to enable the worker to gain in ethical competency, confidence and creativity as to give the best possible service to clients.’

Whilst a very important factor of my supervising is around monitoring professional and ethical issues as cited above, I believe it to be paramount, that my relationship with a supervisee is of a nurturing and supportive nature thus allowing a safe exploration of alternatives and creativity.

I value the provision of space in a supervision session for you as a supervisee to develop your own self awareness and allow your own ‘inner supervisor’ to take centre stage.

If you are a counsellor in training, I am sympathetic to the demands on you, be those academic, financial, time restricting or otherwise and I would devote a good part of our initial meeting to ascertain and understand your own personal expectations and needs from supervision.

Training as a Supervisor?

As part of your training you may require Supervision of Supervision (….I know, where does it end!).
If so, please contact me for further information about my experience and service in this respect.
